Cloth Diaper- This ones for you girl Michael!

I have been wanting do this for some time and I finally got around to it...
MY OWN CLOTH DIAPERS!!
Marisa's friend, Michael (her parents wanted a boy) is very crafty so I knew she would appreciate my creation.
This is only the third thing I've ever sewn (I had to make a vest in home ec. in high school and two weeks ago I made a Maya Wrap) so I am VERY proud of myself! We have had some leakage problems, but I think I didn't fasten it tight enough. I'm excited to make more!
P.S. Save the sumo wrestler jokes, I already know he looks like one:)

Scrapbook-This one's for you Ariane!

This weekend I went to a scrapbooking party with my mom. We had a great time squeezing our creative juices. This is the first time since high-school since I've scrapbooked and I'm really excited with how it turned out!

Making Baby Food

Our neighbors at the end of the street have an overabundance of peaches (about 4 wheelbarrows full) and generously told us that we could take as many as we wanted. It was the perfect opportunity to finally make some baby food.
I boiled the peaches to make it easier to get the skins off, the I pitted them, cooked them some more, pureed them in the blender, then poured them into ice cube trays. Voila! Free baby food! 5 peaches made 9 servings of food. Thats almost $10 saved! I love doing things that get me just a little bit closer to self sufficiency!

Garden 'o' Love

Now those of you who know me know that I have the opposite of a green thumb...a purple pinkie? A few years ago Shane and I plonked down a large sum of money to grow what we named the "garden 'o' love" we nursed all of our plants from seeds and we spent a whole afternoon at his parents house planting the seedlings. We lived in Dover at the time and didn't have a yard of our own. Anyway, long story short...one frost came through and destroyed the whole garden.
I made a second attempt this year, but a very scaled back one. I planted parsley, basil and cherry tomatoes in pots. I am happy to say that they all grew and produced! I've even been able to freeze some of the parsley and basil to use in the winter time! The cherry tomatoes only produced about a dozen tomatoes, but I'm excited that they produced anything! It really boosted my self esteem to eat a tomato that I planted myself and I hope to do more gardening in the future.

Taking the Plunge!

Well on Monday we finally did it...we gave Oliver his first meal of solids. We had always said we wanted to wait a year to feed him solids, but he was starting to eat every hour and a half so obviously my milk was not doing it for him anymore...so all this week we have been giving him rice cereal. The first three days he LOVED it. Last night, however, the only way I could get him to eat it was through his fresh food feeder which was quite messy to understate it! I'm excited to introduce him to all the foods in the world!
The most exciting thing, however, was last night he only got up once, at 430, to eat. He usually gets up 3 times!! It was heaven! Hopefully he will keep it up!

Story Time

I love that Oliver is really starting to enjoy reading. The "experts" always say to read to your child everyday and I found it hard when he was younger and had no interest and probably couldn't even see the images. When he was about a week old I started reading The Mosquito Coast to him, but I couldn't get into the book and he would just sleep through it. I would also read him articles from Time magazine. If I were to try to do that now he would grab it out of my hands and eat it.
Now, though, he loves to turn pages, point at animals, and occasionally snack on the book we're reading. He really loves "touchy feely" books that he can "pet." I hope that he will grow up to love books as much as I do!

Pictures from the weekend

We finally set up a swing for Oliver in the backyard. As you can see he loves it. He used it once and it has rained ever since. :(On Sunday we managed to wrangle up all of the '07 babies for a picture. 2007 must have been a very fertile year!At the Mom and Dad Sargent's last night Oliver crawled forward 2 steps! He hasn't been able to recreate it again though...I wrote an entry about the fresh food feeder we got Oliver, and here it is in action. He enjoyed the watermelon that was inside.

And finally can we just talk about the Olympic Opening Ceremonies??? A.maz.ing.

Great Grandma's Visit

Last week my grandmother came up from Connecticut for the week to visit. Oliver and I had a really great time with her. I'm really glad she came up, she's a lot of fun to be around and has a really great sense of humor. I know that she enjoyed seeing her great grandson, too! We hope she comes back to visit soon and often!

Luke's 1st Birthday

On Saturday Oliver and I went to Luke Crawford's first birthday. Koleen did a great job with the pirate/hawaiian theme. There were plenty of babies for Oliver to play with and plenty of food for mommy to eat:) We had such a great time! Thanks for inviting us Koleen and putting so much effort into a fun day!

she made this cake herself! even the rocks and "gold" are edible!
