Sleepless in Dover

Oy. I have Restless Leg Syndrome (I know!! It's really not made up!) And when I get pregnant for some reason in aggravates the condition to the point that I can't sleep some nights. Last night was one of those nights. I just get a compulsive urge to kick. It is the hardest thing to describe. My mom has it too, and we have always just called it "Crazy Legs" and in high school my friends dubbed it "Epileptic Legs." I was amazed a few years ago when I saw a commercial for it. I would never take medication for it (have you SEEN the warnings!? May increase gambling urges...what the!?) , but it was interesting that it is medically recognized.
ANYWAY.
I stayed up too late last night and had sugar before bed, both of which aggravate the condition. To add to that I walked 5 miles with Oliver earlier in the day so my legs were sore and crampy as it was. Moral of the story I couldn't get to sleep until 2am. I filled my time playing Scramble on my Ipod (thanks for the suggestion, Ariane) and creating a baby registry at babiesrus. OK, its more of a wish list because most of the things on the list are well over $100 and I would never expect someone else to spend that much on my baby. We didn't get to create a registry with Oliver because we were moving to Scotland, so we couldn't take much with us, so it's fun to look up things that I can't afford but would love to have! It's a good way to pass the time:)
ANYWAY.
I got to bed at 2, got up to pee at 3, and then Oliver woke up crying at 415. There is a gas station/truck stop right across the street from us and some mornings are busier than others. This was one of the mornings. Lots of loud trucks accelerating and decelerating VERY LOUDLY. It took about 20 minutes to get him back to sleep. I peed before going in his room and after. So at 445 I was back in bed. At 645 Oliver woke up for the day. I'm not running on too much steam here. And, obviously, the third trimester no-bladder has arrived. Hooray.
In other news, it was at this point in my pregnancy that we moved back from Scotland. I still think about how life would be if we had stayed, but have no regrets about returning.
Thats my rant! Thanks for stoppin' by!

OK, Jess, over the past 12 years of our married life Mark has complained from time to time about RLS! I thought he was making it up. He would sometimes have to go for a run, or like you, just not be able to sleep. We also heard an ad about a prescription of RLS a few years ago and we were shocked to hear that it was a real condition! Anyway, VERY INTERESTING! Hope you sleep tonight! NIGHT!

I had that terrible RLS too. Going to a chiropractor cleared it right up, and I haven't had it since, except when I can tell that one of my lower vertebrae are out of alignment, and then it will start to kick in again. It's worth a shot to see if it helps.
