Obsessions of the Week

Scratch the old list, I'm sick of all of that stuff. Right now it is POTATOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! I love them in any form; fried, baked, mashed scalloped, etc etc. Well, Samweiss can sum up my feelings...

In other news, Mystery Baby is moving all around! I love feeling that little baby swimming around! One week and we will know what it is!!

yum!

Saturday night Shane made us some homemade fries. OH. MY. GOODNESS. They were DELICIOUS!! They were like fair fries, but better! They were like In-n-Out fries, but BETTER! We completely gorged ourselves but it was totally worth it! I highly recommend homemade fries to anyone!

Last night was my dad's birthday. Per usual I made the cake. I went with a bittersweet chocolate cheesecake. I have to say it was mighty tasty. I think I liked it better than the german chocolate cake I made for my mom, but cheesecake is my fave. Mom made me a chocolate cheesecake last week for my birthday and it was heaping with strawberries! (There was no picture of that one because it didn't last long enough!!) This makes it two weeks in a row with choco cheesecake! Yum!

4 month shot

The flash didn't work of the actual "holding the belly shot" so this one will have to do!

Shane had a fantastic week at work. He really loves working there and we can't wait to move down there so he doesn't have an hour and a half commute every morning! We are hoping to move to our apartment the weekend of April 18. Later that hoped for, but it will have to do!

new STUFF!!

This has been quite an eventful (and stressful for Shane's wallet) weekend!

Friday was my birthday. I'm 23. What a wierd age, I feel like I'm in limbo until I get to an age that matters! Anyway, we went out to China Bistro for dinner (used to be Oriental Gardens) now the former place was kind of a dump and had a rotten reputation. Shane and I were SO impressed with what the new owner has done with it. He actually won an award for being one of the top 100 chinese food restaurants in America! We had pan fried dumplings for an appetizer...very fresh and scrumptious. Then we split a main dish called 5 Stars Around the Moon. In the center of the plate was beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and scallops mixed with steamed vegetables in a brown sauce. This was topped with a fried egg (the moon) and surrounded by 5 crab rangoon (the stars!) It was a cool concept and SO YUMMY!! Everything tasted so fresh and wasn't drowned out by the sauce. We also got some rice noodles that are called chao fen. They were very heavily spiced with curry, so they actually reminded me of Indian food. They ended up being better the next day for leftovers, but that could be because we were so full we couldn't appreciate them that night! To finish off the meal we had fried ice cream which wasn't what I expected, but it was a nice, light finish to the meal.

During dinner Shane gave me my birthday present...a new ipod touch! It is awesome! That night when we got home I was able to check my mail, blog, facebook, the news...all from my ipod! So it is basically the iphone without the phone function. The best part is all of the applications that you can add. The first one I added was the scriptures, so I always have them at my finger tips now! I also added the Facebook app, Tap Tap Revenge, which is like guitar hero, a lightsaber-just for the fun of it, and ShakeSpell which is like boggle. It is so much fun to play around with-and I haven't even added any music! It was an awesome present, one that I never would have guessed, because I didn't know I wanted it until I had it! Now Shane is regretting his decision because he can't pry me away from it! I love it Shane (oh, and you;) ) Thanks a million!

After we left the restaurant we went to Funspot and played pool (Shane won) Air Hockey (Shane won) and Pinball (I got more bonus balls:D) It was a fun end to the evening. I always forget how fun Funspot can be until I go!

Yesterday we went down to Cupples Cars in Belmont and finally FINALLY traded in that yellow scourge of a car, the sunfire. Now many people assume that was Shane's "bachelor car" from before our married days. But alas, it was actually my car that he bought for me after my beloved Subarau died. It was fine and dandy B.C. (before children) but now a 2-door is just an inconcieveable car for a soon to be family of four. The owner, Ross Cupples, treated us very well and tried really hard to make the car work for our price range, and for that I am grateful. We ended up getting a 2007 Kia Rondo. It is so roomy!! I love it. It seats 5 and has a HUGE trunk (some models come with a third row, this doesn't, so it has a bigger trunk) I love it and can't wait to start using it on a regular basis. Shane likes it because it is a crossover vehicle, meaning it doesn't look like a mini-van and it gets better mileage than an SUV.

And finally, Oliver got some new rainboots from Grandma this week and we tried them out yesterday. He looks like a little cowboy in them because they are 2 sizes too big (we want them to last for a while!) but he is so stinkin' cute in them, and he can actually splash in puddles now! Here is a video of him winding down his puddle splashing excursion:

Pay It Forward

So, here's how this game works-the first 3 people to leave a comment on this post will receive, at some point during the year, a handmade gift/treat from me. What it will be and when it will arrive is a total surprise! The catch is that you must participate as well. Before you leave your comment, write up a pay it forward post on your blog to keep the fun going (or be lazy and copy and paste like I did).
Then come back, let me know you're going to play and sit back and
anticipate the arrival of your gift! (no promises it will be a cherry pie, though:))

Nutrition

This morning when I was making Shane's lunch I gave him an option.
Strawberries,
orange,
or banana.
His response?
"I have a hunny bun in the fridge."
Ahh, men:)

Kiwi

This video has been deeply affecting me, I cry every time I watch it. The maker of this was brilliant. It's the tear that does me in...

And then someone else made a happy ending for it:) (Although, of course, it has much more powerful without it)

Birthdays

Tuesday was Mom's birthday, so I made her this little beauty. German chocolate cake! I'm not one to toot my own horn, but this cake actually looks exactly like the picture in the cookbook...how often does that happen!?

And I have to give a little shout out to my sister, Leslea, because today is her birthday. She is the coolest mom I know, I'm so jealous of her. She can always keep her cool, is an amazing cook, has great taste in music, and has great style (not to mention a diehard Magpies fan!). She has passed all of these attributes on to her two daughters. I am extremely excited that they are coming to America next month to visit! Happy Birthday, Les!

snowshoeing

Yesterday Oliver and I joined up with some friends at Prescott Farm and went snowshoeing! The first half was great until I realized that this was because it was all downhill. Which meant that the the return trip was all uphill. Not pleasant. It was very hard work and my legs are pretty mad at me this morning, but its so nice to get outside! We are cooped up so much, especially this winter because the snow is taller than Oliver so he can't play in it! I vowed never to go snowshoeing again, but my body forgets pain pretty quickly, and I think that if anyone offered, I would go again this week!
